March 6, 2006. - Microsoft AntiSpyware has been renamed Windows Defender and been given a new user interface. It is essentially the same spyware monitor and removal tool, but it has been improved and streamlined. nLite - Allows you choose which components to remove from Windows 2000, XP or 2003 before installation. You can make a bootable ISO and easily slipstream Service packs. Use the Product Key implementation so you don't need to enter it during setup. Installing Windows is much faster if you make use of Component Removal to trim Windows of its bloat so that it only installs 40 to 50% of its default installation size.
CopyLock - Allows replacing, copying, moving, renaming, and deleting one or more files, access to which is restricted because they're active system files, or virus/trojan files that have conned the system into making them active system files. Just add the files to the program's Update feature, click Apply, restart, and the selected action will be carried out.
Easy Thumbnails - Creates thumbnail images or reduces the size of images very easily - Windows 95/98/2000/Me/XP.
Skype - Allows you to make free phone calls to other Skype users around the world. You can talk to up to five friends at once. Recently released, PocketSkype allows calls from a pocket computer when in range of a WiFi hotspot.
SpeedSwitchXP - What the different power schemes do in Windows XP is not clear, and it is not possible to adjust the schemes because the important settings are not accessible through the Control Panel. SpeedswitchXP provides access to all of the power scheme settings. It comes in very handy for laptop users when they want to use the full power of their processor when connected to the mains.
CDBurnerXP Pro 3 - If you're using Windows Media dump it and install a decent program. Before you spend money, try the excellent free program CDBurnerXP Pro 3 from http://www.cdburnerxp.se/. - The critics are raving about it.
A free sound file format converter - A free utility that converts from wav, mp3, ogg, flac, aac, wma, au, aiff, ogg, msv, dvf, vox, atrac, gsm, dss and other formats into mp3 or wav. A paid-for version can deal with even more formats, but the free version should meet the needs of most users. There are other sound utilities made available from the site, all of which work together to provide an impressive sound-processing suite.
