CD/DVD/Blu-ray problem: Computer in Windows XP doesn't recognise/recognize its CD/DVD drives

I have a Dell Dimension 3000 desktop PC that is running Windows XP Home Edition with SP3 installed. About a week ago, it stopped recognising my DVD-ROM drive and DVD writer. They both show up in the BIOS and in the system (the Device Manager), but not in My Computer. When I go to the listing of the drives in the Device Manager, there is a yellow exclamation mark beside each drive's entry.
